Surroundings Discover Montefano and the wonders of the countryside in the Marche region
Montefano is a place where nothing is far. From the city you can reach various places in no time.
Montefano, in the local dialect Montefà, is a little town in the hills surrounding Macerata, in the Marche region; the city centre was built in the 18th century and is enclosed by ancient walls. Placed in a strategic location, between the provinces of Ancona and Macerata, the mountains and the sea, it is the perfect starting point to discover our region. The town has always been tradition-bound to agricolture and farming, it is a town of art and culture. Montefano is the hometown to photographer Arturo Ghergo and houses the beautiful theatre designed by Tombolini, "La Rondinella".
Between the alleys in the village you will find Pope Marcello II childhood home, the ancient Carradori-Olivi palace and magnificent churches( some of which in baroque style): Collegiata di San Donato, San Filippo's church with the convent, Santa Maria Assunta's church, S.Antonio Abate's and Madonna degli angeli's church. Around the center town walls it is possible to see the Torrione Scarpato, the original tower leading into the village. If you are willing to stay neaby the holiday house, Montefano and the surroundings have a lot to offer. Between wineries (where you can taste local wines), oil mills (where you can taste very good oil), Farms ( that will offer local treats), artisanal breweries (for all fans) and beekeepers with biologic honey ( or who cant resist to the sweet taste) you will be spoiled for choice, many are the specialties offered in this territory for a culinary holiday in the Marche region. Nearby there are also many sites you can visit.
Loreto
Theres Loreto, less then half an hour by car, with its beautiful basilica, architectural jewel and pilgrimage destination, virgin Mary tourism. It was passed down that the angels moved here the house where Mary lived and was give the annunciation; many faithful, or just curious, history and art lovers come here to admire this little house,subject to many studies, se inside the bigger church.
Recanati
Recanati, 15 minuts away, is hometown to the famous tenor and actoer Beniamino Gigli and the most known Giacomo Leopardi, whose house and library can be visited. In Recanati there is also the "Centro Nazionale di Studi Leopardiani", where his most famous scripts and studies about his poems. There is also the International "Centre of Poetry and Culture", where various conferences are held.
Macerata
About 20 minutes away you can explore Macerata, home to many museums and is famous for the extraordinary Sferisterio, which hosts lyrical concerts and concerts of international artists who perform on this prestigious stage.
CONERO COAST
Only a 25 minutes drive away from the Conero Coast, with numerous treasures to be discovered: Sirolo, Numana and all the other coastal towns are waiting for you to visit them. The seaside is of a rare beauty, hard to find elsewhere along the Adriatic coast: the Conero is a beautiful area, where you can find many renowned "Bandiere Blu".
